  About the project

The Humboldt County School District (Nevada) was awarded a U.S. Department of Education School Readiness & Emergency Management Grant in 2005.

HCSD contracted with Visual Imagry, Inc. in 2006 to
develop a comprehensive database and provide HTML preplan software.

Evaluator Ed Rybold from Sentinel Evaluations Group, wrote about the sustainability of the School Readiness & Emergency Management Project in 2007.

"Visual Imagery's software - VIPlanning® can create an infrastructure to provide the foundation for a sustainable, solid program for school districts.

The "building block approach" provided by Visual Imagry begins with a foundation to establish a solid (infrastructure) base. This base is the backbone where information, processes, and procedures provide the necessary guidance to administrators, staff, teachers, and first response units.

Visual Imagry creates a "backbone" using VIPlanning® Software that creates a computer-based network providing the necessary infrastructure to hold and quickly disseminate information upon request. Once the computer network has been incorporated into any school district’s network systems with the requisite plans and protocols, staff will be required to attend training and familiarize themselves with the updated plans, processes, procedures, and expectations in mitigating emergency situations.

Familiarization via training will be reinforced through routinely conducted school drills and/or exercises to support those processes and procedures. Lessons learned from those drills and exercises will show gaps and/or deficiencies in policies, plans, processes and procedures as well as insufficient quantities or inadequate equipment. Corrective actions from the lessons learned will increase the likelihood of the District in providing a safe learning environment and reflecting a successful proactive program.

Visual Imagry launches its initial step by creating the infrastructure critical to support a process to quickly access emergency response information during an incident upon request.

This infrastructure required the installation of an interactive electronic database, via VIPlanning® Software, containing specific information for staff, teachers and first response units would want to possess to mitigate an incident at each school site. Once this electronic infrastructure was installed and incorporated the required information such as emergency plans and protocols, staff, teachers and students could train on those plans and protocols.

Through the use of the building block approach to install the infrastructure, update plans, train to the updated plans, and conduct drills / exercises, preparedness can be achieved. Project sustainability must have the ability to achieve long term preparedness goals and success for school districts."
