Manogue
Hosts Functional Exercise, continued
In
recent years, there have been acts of violence
and domestic terrorism involving schools
in Nevada and across the country. There have
also been a number of critical incidents
involving accidental and severe weather situations.
It has become quite clear that most schools
have not been previously prepared to deal
with many crisis situations. Bishop Manogue
Catholic High School has been steadily improving
its capabilities to deal with crisis situations
whether they are natural or man made.
To further enhance readiness, recent state legislation has directed that a
functional Emergency Operations Plan be developed for each school
and that the plan needs to be updated and revised yearly to address issues
that can be best dealt with at the school-site level. Our Emergency
Operations Plan is designed as a consistent
protocol, which will serve as a needed framework," Principal
Jaureguito added. "We believe that it
is important that public safety officials,
school employees, students, and parents/guardians,
be involved in the planning and response
processes."
"Our Emergency
Operations Plan serves as the standard protocol
for Bishop Manogue Catholic High School," Principal
Jaureguito explained.
"This
year's exercise provided our administrators,
teachers, staff and students with a valuable
opportunity to work with local
area first responders, as well as exercise |

our
Emergency Operations Plan, HTML preplan and
protocols," said Principal
Jaureguito.
Principal
Jaureguito went on to say, "This
is the second functional exercise that
has taken
place at our new school facility. I
feel we were even more prepared as a school than before because we now
have the HTML visualization preplan developed
by Visual Imagry.
This is a tool we can share with local
law enforcement and other first responders so they are provided with a virtual
tour of our 138,000 sq. ft. facility."
Some of the information
available within the HTML preplan includes protocol lists, aerial photographs,
maps, utility connections, photographs (classrooms, lounges, common areas,
and students), and site plans with evacuation routes,as well as staging
areas.
"After this year's exercise, we were sure that the HTML preplan data did
assist first response units at the command post," said Principal
Jaureguito. "The command post is where
tactical decisions and priorities may be determined based on the current
situation; and we provided them with a valuable tool - our HTML preplan."
The HTML preplan was created by Visual Imagry,
Inc., using VIPlanning® Software.
Jim Ongman, Director of Facility Operations developed
the Manogue HTML preplan.
