When
you make your animal disaster

your animals..

Here
are a few suggestions for your disaster
preparedness kit:
1.
A COLLAR AND TAG
A proper fitting collar and an identification tag should be kept on your dog
at all times. You may also want to include a phone number that is out of the
area in case you are forced to evacuate and can not be reached by your local
phone number. You might even want to talk to your vet about microchipping.

2.
FIRST AID KIT
Check with your veterinarian to find
out what he/she recommends for you
to include in your animal’s
first aid kit.
3.
CRATE or CAGE
You might want to consider purchasing a crate or cage to contain your animal
in case of a disaster. This can be used for transportation or even a place
for housing your pet.
(Just
a note from the author: We own a
cat that is very shy. She was afraid
of the cat carrier so I found a place
in the den and put a blanket in it
and her cat toy. It didn’t
take long before she found her way
in there and now finds that a great
place to rest. And sometimes I just
take her for a ride in the car.)
4.
BLANKET AND TOYS
Why not consider a blanket or toys that you could add to your disaster preparedness
kit?
5. TRAVEL BOWL SET
I found a great fold-up bowl in its own carrying case. For larger dogs, there's
a web cuff to flip up that makes the bowl deeper. The bowl holds 4 cups of
dry food or 20 oz. of water, and measures 10" across x 2" high.
6. COLLAR ID FOR LESS THAN $3
A Collar ID for the dog on the go is a great place to put your contact information
and it attaches to your animals collar or halter.
7.
A CURRENT PHOTO
While you are taking photos, why not take some extra photos of your companion
animal or horse?
In fact, why not have someone take a photo of you with your
animal. This can be used to help identify your animals if somehow you get separated. |

WHAT ABOUT A DAY TRIP BELT PACK?
What a great gift for under $35! It includes four easy pieces: a deluxe belt
pack, food pouch (holds 3 cups) adjustable clip-on leash for hands-free walking
and fold-up travel bowl with features galore.
9. WHAT ABOUT A BACK PACK FOR YOUR DOG?
This go-everywhere set includes two roomy compartments, a pack-up travel bowl
and a 45" adjustable leash that doubles as a shoulder strap when you want
to carry the load
(Gifts
#6 through #9 I found on the web
at www.realboss.com)
10.
DO NOT FORGET YOUR HORSES!
They could use a water storage bin or even a blanket. Or maybe it’s just
time to start putting a disaster preparedness kit together for them that includes
things like a cotton rope, wire cutters, horse treats, an extra halter, a bucket,
etc.
This
year make it an extra special season
by giving your companion animal something
that one day could help during disasters.
